   USS Flier (SS-250)

Search and Discovery of USS Flier

Over the years, there have been reports from the Philippine Islands that the wreck of USS Flier has been found and dove upon.  Until now, no conclusive evidence of the discovery has come out in reputable sources.

In a press release dated 1 February 2010, the Navy confirmed that the sunken submarine recently found in Balabac Strait is USS Flier.

Below are scenes from the episode entitled "Submarine Graveyard" in the Yap Films' production Dive Detectives.  The episode is being shown on the Smithsonian Channel the week of May 1 to May 7. Thanks to Becky Hughes, author of Surviving the Flier and creator of ussflierproject.com for getting this information.

Becky also says, "The Submarine Graveyard Episode is now available on iTunes.  The single episode is $2.99 and while I cannot see it on the screen I just linked to, you can "rent" the episode for $0.99.  There are still no DVD series yet, but I guess that's to be expected.  It looks like Smithsonian sells whole series once they are done.  So we'll give them another week, and then keep checking....  This particular show will air about 12 times over the course of the week."
